Tea has already become a part of Filipino diet as tea shops and restaurants offering this second most popular drink in the world in different kind and form are everywhere and they go viral very fast. Though it has long been part of Asian diet, for us Filipinos it is slowly and successfully invading us. Who among us have not experienced drinking bubble tea or milk tea? Majority have joined the bandwagon I bet. Even fast food restaurants have joined the latest obeservable occurence. What could be next after this? I cannot exactly predict.
OpenRice Philippines invited me once again to join their Eat's A Date event a few days ago and this is the second time around that they want bloggers and OpenRicers to feature a tea shop called tea.ology. I've seen their very first and cute branch in Il Terrazzo Mall, Quezon City early this year and honestly it was only that night that I was able to taste some of their beverages that the owners proudly pronounced their products are made from 100% freshly-brewed loose-leaf teas for a healthy life!
Isn't it their brand name really catchy and rings a bell? Of course it does not mean a rational study of religion and its influence, as we are pertaining to a teo.logy word here and not theology. teo.logy, based on what is printed in their plastic cups, is the art and study of brewing the perfect cup of tea. It is nice to take note that even now the word is pronounced is written as well. It was actually a bright idea for a tea shop name. Something easy to remember and makes a lot of sense. They have limited tea blends and makes a lot easier to order as you need not to browse for more than a minute or so. They classify their tea according to: Tealuxe, Fruit Tea Infusions, Classic Milk Teas, Classic Teas, Milk Tea Blends and Other Favorites.
The entire place may be a bit small yet larger than their first branch in Tomas Morato, which is a food stall kind of set-up. It has posh seats and cute tables surrounded with dainty paintings and colorful mural and assorted glass jars filled with different knickknacks from different parts of the world - coffee beans, tea leaves and spices. I certainly love its interior, very clean and orderly. I aslo like those rattan lamp shade dangling nicely from the ceiling as it gives the guests comfort and feel just like what we have at home.
The place is owned by three young and lovely entrepreneurs, namely Rachel Yu, Raissa Lacson and Sheryll Ann Sobremonte. Though they came from different industries, they found themselves with the same goal of sharing with us Pinoys a perfect cup of tea.
The owners let is sample four of their best-sellers in small cups before allowing us to personally order our preferred tea on its original size. From left to right: Honey Cinnamon Milk Tea (hot)- this is rarely being offered in the tea shops here in Metro Manila and my first (if I am not mistaken). It has light cinnamon taste with just the right amount of sweetness. It kinda relaxes me after drinking just few ounces. Frosted Mint Chocolate Milk Tea- originally available during Christmas season but due to insistent public demand they made it a regular part of their menu. Something which I definitely approve! I want minty and chocolatey tea as it makes me ecstatically happy. Kyoto Matcha Tea Latte (with black pearls)- has zero percent sugar since the business owners want it as is as possible, which in effect is healthy in a way but find it a little too grainy and grassy for my taste. Raspberry Milk Tea (with nata)- this last tea sample has a super light texture and just a little creamy with a tinge of raspberry that is fragrant and appealing.
In between our tea time moment we were given a small paper bucket half-filled with their assorted munchies like nuggets, potato puffs and cheese-filled hashbrowns. It is notable to comment that these bite-sized finger foods were served warm and in an apt container which can be brought out anytime. I somehow find the nugget pieces a bit airy but the rest are awesome. teo.logy is a relaxing place to kill your time not just with a cup of tea but with their selection of munchies. Very very few tea shops offer this kind of food item on their menu so I guess students and office workers in Katipunan won't left this place dissatisfied.
How do you order? Simply choose your drink; choose your topping (pearl, coconut jelly, coffee jelly, sweat tea jelly or egg pudding); and last but definitely not the least, choose your sweetness level (100%- sweet, 75%- slightly sweet, 50%- barely sweet and 25%- not sweet).
Each of us has his or her preferred taste so we were finally given a high time to choose what we want. While my seatmate/dear friend chose Dark Chocolate Milk Tea with egg pudding, me on the other hand have selected its light color counterpart, the White Chocolate Milk Tea with egg pudding. We made sure we exchange drinks just so we can compare one from the other. The dark one (hers) is a milk tea combined with rich premium dark chocolate sauce and every sip is surely a bliss, especially if you are a chocolate lover. However, the white one (mine) is a creamy milk tea blended with white chocolate syrup and I was like insatiably hungry for more after consuming half of the cup. And yeah the egg pudding made me a bit full. Wish I got the much needed protein from it ^_^
The owners and their staff. All smiles! Now, how about being good to yourself and drink up some tea and take your snack here next time? Remember they have two branches in Quezon City, so take your chance and indulge ^_^
