Do you guys know what is the newest milk tea place in town? And to be very specific it is a brand that specializes in making Thai Milk Tea. Yes! It is not exactly the same milk teas that we regularly consume and saw in prime malls here in the metro though it also boasts of being natural and freshly-steeped. If you are a habitual tea drinker then you could probably have known this before. Let's welcome in the roster of tea craze . . . Jelly G Thai Milk Tea!!!! I was so fortunate to discover and try their newest branch just in time for their store blessing the other day, situated at the ground level of the Shaw Zentrum in Mandaluyong City. Most of its outlets are stall type but the owners are beginning to invest on a fast casual dining set-up to cater more guests as they improve on their product line up that is too different and peculiar from what we are used to. So teaholics out there who do not just like sipping tea but snacking as well. I highly suggest you visit this place and be impressed like I did.
Upon entry, you'll notice that the place seem so alive with its vibrant neon green and white color combination. Something that represents growth and even nature-like. On the left side near the entrance is a shelf filled with food stuffs and knickknacks like Spicy Mango, Peanut with Sesame Seeds, Baby Empanada, Dilis with Sesame Seeds, Tamarind candies which are sold per pack and cupfuls of ground coffee and tea leaves samples which guest could examine, hold and smell anytime they want.
Grass Jelly and Thai Milk Tea
If you happen to be wandering idly, you will instantly notice a cork board oozing with so brief notes, messages and what-nots about their experience at Jelly G. It was so nice to behold as it mimics the bulletin board during my high school years. Of course pen and neon-colored post it are readily available for customer's use. Moreover, magazines, pocketbooks, newspapers and even board game like Snake 'n Ladder can keep you busy and make your stay a little worthwhile.
Since the place was having a mini-celebration for their soft opening that time, my foodie companion and I were given complimentary food along with the mall administrators and some of their special guests. From left to right drinks are: Thai Milk Tea which uses thai tea, milk and syrup; Jasmine Green which uses green tea, milk and syrup; and Carmeletea which is made of thai tea, milk, syrup and caramel. To tell you frankly, these first three drinks that I have tasted were impressively different from the milk teas I've encountered before all because the basic tea used was thai tea which obviously was made from strongly-brewed black tea. It goes without saying that avid black tea drinkers will definitely love this brand.
(L-R) Dark Chunky Oreo (PhP90) is one of their bestsellers which is made of chocolate, milk, syrup and oreo. Drinking this is like being a child once again. Choco Mist (PhP90) that was concocted using chocolate, milk, syrup and peppermint. Something that has wow factor for me because it has the right blend of chocolatey taste and minty sensation! And last but not the least, the Frothy Winter Thai is a special-blend of cold tea drink which made use of Green Oolong tea leaves. Not that sweet yet has creamy texture that will easily love by many.
Apart from the original that tea-based drinks and chocolate-based tea drinks, Jelly G is proud to deliver coffee-based and fruit-based teas. People behind this milk tea never forget to remind their buyers and drinkers the health benefits of what they sell. They have it printed in small papers for easy leafletting and have important details included in the menu flyers as well. Say for instance Grass Jelly... It reduces temperature and fever; prevents indigestion; lowers high blood pressure; acts as a diuretic; and increases fertility. Coffee on the other hand, reduces risk of liver damage; improves cognitive function; reduces risks of developing gallstones and improves cognitive function.
For more delightful snacking experience we sampled the following savory and sweet Bread Toasts.
Choco Ecstacy PhP45
Pandan Delight PhP55
Basil Blush PhP45
Tuna Flirt with Chili Flakes PhP60
When assorted plates of bread toast landed on our table, my friend Eugene was reminded of Toast Box while my point of comparison are those Kaya Toasts that I've binged before. These thick bread toasts made our snack more filling and exciting. Everything exceeded my expectation but I cannot finish this review of course without naming which topped my gustation, it was Basil Blush followed by Tuna Flirt! You gotta try these two guys as they are incredibly good and something that is worth your money. There are enough to choose from and all are certainly affordable that even students and those that thrift buying to save a little will enjoy big time. Take note to eat the bread toast while it is still warm as the quality of the bread easily deteriorates once subjected to air for a long period of time. As usual it becomes hard and crusty. Other Bread Toast variants are Cheese Floozy, Pork Floss, Caramel Dream and Vanilla Classic.
Pad Kee Mao PhP50
A famous noodle dish in Thailand concocted by Jelly G in such a way that it is primarily made of soft-rice noodles, sliced pork, lots of basil, garlic and bean sprouts or 'toge'. The sweetness and spiciness of the dish complemented each other and containing with just the right amount of broth.
This one is quite similar to the dish presented above except that it was made of shrimp pieces and a bit more spicy yet still tolerable.
Jelly G is also now noodling authentic Thai noodles. Imagine a Thai-inspired milk tea shop serving bread toasts and noodles? Where else can you find this type of shop? This is not just a milk tea place because it is ideally a fast casual tea/snack shop where you can consider killing your time in the following days. Other noodle flavors are: Pork Tom Yum, Minced Pork and Chicken Curry.
Cheesy Green PhP85
Save the best for last. For finale we tried this drink which was made of green tea leaves, milk, syrup, and cheese sprinkle of rock salt. This is their version of rock salt and cheese. A bit frothy with an added texture of real grated cheddar cheese. Coolness! :) Already a decent steal for its price.
Remember, Jelly G is the only brand in the market that serves authentic, creamy and perfectly blended THAI MILK TEA! So try this and learn from your dining experience. I must warn you. this is not your ordinary kind of teashop
