Sentro 1771 is under the group of Chateau 1771 Group of Restaurants and dining here for the very first time on a Saturday afternoon brought me so much familiarity and delight. This modern Filipino restaurant has been around for more than a decade serving only authentic and gold standard Filipino regional cuisine that mirrors our culture and deep love for comfort food. My journey here doesn't end that day for I have yet to explore a mouthful of experience again and again and again.
The restaurant is exuding with so much comfort because of its laid back interiors making your entire stay a superb one. I particularly like the stylish lighting fixtures that put so much character to the over-all dining set-up. Our foodie group was served with superb dishes which I could consider all as house specialties. We had a dish from appetizers, vegetables, rice and noodles, meat and seafood. Moreover, to die for desserts marked our lunch time with great satisfaction.
Fried Kesong Puti PhP180 (Solo) PhP320 (Sharing)
At first look the plate seemed to have a bunch of nuggets but each bite size thing are called organic native white cheese. I never had like this one before for I only used to have white cheese as spread in my hot pandesal. This fried creation was coated with bread crumbs and then deep-fried until golden brown. You have two options for dips like the sweet chili guava sauce and garlic dip. I just can't get enough of this.
Fresh Smoked Fish Spring Roll PhP270
Another appetizer which we tried on was this different kind of spring roll. This lumpia recipe has never been this soooo good for it is made with tinapang bangus, salted egg, mustasa, onions and tomato. Not the usual lumpia that our mom or grandma prepare for a get-together, right? Dip each piece in vinegar and the next thing you'll know it is bursting with so much flavor that you need to pop another one.
While others have the Sago't Gulaman coolers, yours truly decided to have a glass of guilt-free Green Mango Shake for a change. Do not expect straw at this place for I surmise they are under the strawless campaign which is definitely not an issue for me.
Beef PinoyTapa Salad PhP180
Oh! Everybody knows how I love greens with palatable vinaigrette. This one actually made my day. It felt like I had unlimited refills on my plate without anybody noticing about my secret pleasure. Texture combinations of meat and fresh veggies worked best for me. It was so plain simple and creative!
Sizzling Tofu PhP250
I always prefer tofu than tokwa becaue of its fine texture and nutritional value. If you want something that could sizzle your day then you might want to opt for this one on your first visit. Tofu cubes concocted with mayo dressing, black peppers and spring onions then finally mixed in with calamansi zest. A fine viand and a perfect beer match too!
Tilapia Fillet in Coconut Milk PhP220 (Solo) PhP360 (Sharing)
Suddenly I remember my mom cooking this viand regularly. I know that nothing beats my mom's specialty fish dish but this one is kinda similar to hers. Need I say more about this? It was cooked the way I expected it to be though I wanted it more spicy. A healthy dish I cannot just exchange with another dish in the same category.
Pinoy Osso Bucco PhP380
This recipe is originally an Italian braised and slow cooked recipe but Sentro created the dish in a Pinoy way.
And what an extraordinary way to concoct one which we Filipinos may call our own. An irresistible dish that truly could complement your extra rice kind of thing. In my case, my brown rice was left unfinished because the appetizers and salads alone are filling already. Tender meat pieces that is so deep in flavor. Such a beautiful and palatable recipe adaptation.
Rated GG PhP230 (Solo) PhP445 (Sharing)
GG is a short-cut term for galunggong or a big-bellied round scad. This is such an extraordinary way to cook a well-known fish that is filleted and then fried in garlic oil and topped with browned garlic. I'd experience extreme pleasure in eating this dish with my brown rice. Such a great discovery,
Lamb Caldereta PhP480 (Solo) PhP880 (Sharing)
Even though I am so full tasting all of the superb Filipino dishes - classic and inventive ones, I could not resist not to try this caldereta. It has quite a resemblance to some Spanish dishes perhaps because of the inclusion of wine in cooking. Flavorful because of the lamb's fat content ( I guess), a bit spicy and therefore, such a winner dish. No wonder it is one of the most popular dish in our country.
Spinach and Glass Noodles PhP220
Noodles, anyone? For a change, having this kind of dish on your table is quite noticeable not just for me but to my seatmates as well. Made by stir frying the bright green spinach and vermicelli mung bean noodles. Spinach has this distinctive taste which i believe complemented the blandness of the glass noodles.
Corned Beef Sinigang PhP310 (Solo) PhP595 (Sharing)
And here's one thing that you MUST order on your very first visit. Something that earned so much positive reviews and raves and that whenever you hear this unbelievable recipe, it conjures a lot of great feedback. A dish is made of corned beef short ribs and boneless shanks in tamarind broth cooked with hefty native vegetables. A diner has an option to choose the level of sourness or tartness for this incredible dish. The kitchen team will then produce one according to your request. Such a genius idea to prevent unbecoming remarks from the guests who deeply love sinigang even in the most peculiar way.
My first time here at SENTRO 1771 was impressive that I planned to go back here with my family and close relatives one day. It ay be a bit pricey but I learned that it will all be worth it. It confirms that Filipino dishes, as our pride is at par with the world's best.
