The Kitchen of Cakes and Coffee

The Kitchen of Cakes and Coffee
It was an unplanned dessert experience with Eugene and Isabelle one night at Tomas Morato, Quezon City. The three of us came from a pizza-bingeing experience at a nearby restaurant when all of a sudden this hefty foodie friend of mine offered an invitation to answer his sweet tooth craving. Fortunately, the three of us were on the same boat. Minutes later we found ourselves crossing the streets of busy Tomas Morato area and entered  a hole-in-a-wall cakes and coffee shop which is open util wee hours. Honestly, it was our first time at the said branch though I've sampled some of their products last year at their branch in SM North Edsa. But I like this outlet in better because of its spacious dining area and wide array of cakes and pastries that aim to please you even late at night.

This shop has a lot to offer. Would you mind to scan through the sturdy menu board? They are not only about cakes and coffee for they offer yogurts, gourmet coffee, breads and pastries too. Definitely a lot to choose from and hey pretty easy on the pocket too!

Cozy and chillaxing ambiance with ultra fast WiFi connection.  More seats upstairs which I shall be experiencing soon should I need respite in the coming days.

Quality of lighting plays important role to restaurants and coffee shops and I simply love KOCC's. Feels like home.

Even if we just came from a food tasting event, we never run out of places to go and interesting things to eat. We did not just order one slice of cake each but shared five cakes that chill evening yet no room for coffee. Well we decided no to caffeine-containing drinks that time for we settled for house water so that we can taste these wonderful cakes before us. Matter-of-factly, there are four types of cakes that Kitchen of Cakes and Coffee have on their menu - Chocolate Cakes, Meringue Cakes, Cheesecakes and All-Time Favorites. In that case we purposefully ordered cakes belonging to each category and have them delivered to our table one at a time to maintain its refrigerated quality. Let's check them one by one? Please be ready as sugar rush might start coursing through your body in no time ^_^

The Decadent (PhP90/slice   PhP650/whole)
It is a moist chocolate cake with coffee pastry cream and chocolatey ganache on top. This one really emits  espresso taste and a touch of warm vanilla. Spongy and has an exact blend of flavors. If you want some pleasure in dessert, you might want to opt for this one.

White Choco Sansrival (PhP 80/slice   PhP470/whole)
A meringue type of cake made with classic cashew sansrival with a white chocolate twist. I love every spoonful because of its super nutty that is exquisitely combined in white chocolate. I was swooned over this piece of cake. Oh I want this now!

Coffee Tiramisu (PhP 80/ slice   PhP520/whole)
A cheesecake made with Italian espresso and cream cheese. For me this one is not a real tiramisu cake as I find it too spongy or chiffon-like in quality, which  reminds me very well with the one being sold in a local and commercial bakeshop's mamon. Looks divine but the product name does not perfectly suit the general description. More improvement on this one perhaps.

7th Heaven (PhP90/slice   PhP695/whole)
The newest item among the cake variants. Made with seven layers of chocolate cake, cashew meringue, custard and mocha buttercream. Mocha flavor resonates in every bite which is acceptable even if chocolate is my expected lingering flavor. This is quite a good steal for its price and category.

Mango Walnut Torte (PhP90/slice  PhP650/whole)
Another slice that belongs to the meringue cake group. You'll be expected to say oh! because of its sweet and salty walnut and mango meringues with cream. Reminds me of my favorite torte cake from Conti's because the over-all effect is really at par with the said brand but not the appearance and too sweet icing.  This cake tends to limp and soften if exposed too much to room temperature. I suggest you eat it as soon as it is served.

Really Queso Cheesecake (PhP90/slice  PhP650/whole)
A cheesecake variant made with queso de bola and cheddar cheese. The topmost part mimics that of queso de bola surface, both the color and texture. Looks really really appealing because of its fiery attempt to catch your attention but to me it is not a type of cheesecake that I expected. Quite buttery for me and not that exuding the way cheesecake standard should be.

Whoopie Cake
Little did we know that once your bill reaches PhP500 and above, you are entitled to one free cake. Now I cannot place if it was of your choice or their local store marketing strategy. Still, thanks to the ever caring manager on duty and staffs that time for such a good and reliable information. Instead of leaving the shop past 12 midnight, we were given the opportunity to taste this cake made white marshmallows, chocolate chip and cream cheese. What a good way to finish our 5 slices of cakes. Turned out to be another dessert bingeing session. Looking forward to see this shop again especially if the weather fits.

If you are looking for a dessert place or barkada hideout place, try this Kitchen of Cakes and Coffee. Everything affordable and choices of menu offerings are quite good. A relaxing and conducive place to be for late chill out in Quezon City. A kitchen full of sweets and wonderful surprises!
